Intro

We designed and implemented a fully automated system for a metal can forming line, dedicated to processing metal sheets and assembling cans of various sizes.
The solution was developed to ensure a fully automated flow, from raw metal sheet processing to final inspection and transport of finished products to the logistics area.

Process Description

The process begins with the automatic feeding of the metal sheet, which is stamped, bent, and processed to form the can body.

Next, the material passes through welding and heat treatment stations (seam welding and oven), after which the parts undergo automatic quality control:

  • Conforming products are picked up by a magnetic conveyor and transported further.
  • Non-conforming products are automatically removed via pneumatically operated plastic flaps or compressed air blow-off.

After the separation of good products, they are automatically sorted by size (large/small cans) and then enter an assembly station where metal lids are applied.

The finished products are then transported to the counting, packaging, and logistics area, from where they are transferred to another hall.

Control and Automation

The entire process is controlled by an industrial PLC, which monitors:

  • Magnetic conveyor motors
  • Process logic conditions
  • Sensor and machine contact statuses
  • Solenoid valve control

Operators can monitor the entire flow in real time through an intuitive HMI interface, which includes a graphical animation of the process for clear visualization and rapid parameter adjustment.

HMI Interface and PLC Programming:

he system is managed by an industrial PLC integrated with an intuitive HMI, providing:

  • real-time monitoring of equipment and sensors;
  • quick adjustment of process parameters;
  • graphical visualization of the workflow for fast issue detection.

This ensures streamlined operation and empowers operators to maintain optimal performance throughout the entire production line.
