Intro:

Our intelligent irrigation automation system transforms large-scale agriculture by delivering precise, efficient, and fully programmable water and nutrient management. Designed for a 70-hectare walnut plantation, the system ensures optimal performance in every irrigation zone while reducing operational effort and maximizing crop health.

General Overview

The installation is supplied from a central storage basin, where water and nutrient solutions are automatically distributed to each irrigation zone.
Through the HMI interface, operators have complete control over the entire process and can configure:

  • the desired water volume or irrigation time,
  • optimal pressure and flow for each sector,
  • automated spraying programs, including scheduled start times,
  • automatic filling of the auxiliary tank, with the solution volume set in liters.

Depending on operational needs, the system can mix and pump nutrient solutions or treatments directly from the basin, homogenized by an automatically controlled recirculation pump.
The same basin can also supply a mobile tank used for manual watering or spraying, delivering precise solution quantities set directly from the HMI.

Automation and Control

The entire process is managed by an industrial PLC, which handles:

  • opening and closing of the solenoid valves for each sector,
  • operation of the supply and recirculation pumps,
  • measurement and regulation of pressure and water flow,
  • fully automated irrigation sequencing for zones 1, 2, and 3, ensuring uniform watering across the plantation.

All key parameters – pressure, flow, volume, pump status, and valve status – are monitored in real time on the HMI, with the option for manual intervention when needed.

HMI Interface & Smart Functions

Through the HMI display, operators can:

  • choose predefined irrigation programs,
  • configure automatic start times,
  • view real-time pressure and flow values,
  • track the progress of each sector and the time remaining for the current cycle.

Once irrigation in sector 1 is complete, the system automatically proceeds to sector 2, then sector 3, ensuring balanced distribution of water and nutrients across the entire plantation.

Results & Benefits

  • Fully automated and programmable irrigation system by zones
  • Precise control of pressure, flow, and water volume
  • Automatic dosing and mixing of nutrient solutions
  • Significant time and resource savings for operators
  • User-friendly and intuitive HMI interface
